Service: Tax Collector

Tax Collector

The Tax Collector is responsible for collecting property-taxes for properties in the Town. This responsibility includes mailing bills and recording payments. Property-tax bills are mailed in December.

School property taxes are administered separately by the school district. Those bills are mailed in September.

The total amount of property taxes to be collected for the Town of Varick and various special districts is set by the Varick Town Board as part of the budget process each November and December. Seneca County property taxes are on the same bill and are set by the Seneca County Board of Supervisors as part of the county budget process.

The portion of the total tax levy borne by an individual parcel is on a value basis. The taxable value is determined by the Tax Assessor. If property owners feel that the assesment is inaccurate, they can appeal through the Assessment Review Board on a specific date in May.
